Help from every day household items

So, today I have decided to share a book with you that I just LOVE!  While standing in line at the bookstore  a few weeks ago, I glanced over and saw this book and had to buy it.  "Extraordinary Uses for Ordinary Things" by Reader's Digest, has solutions for so many everyday household problems.  You would not believe all things we could use baking soda for!!!  I felt like I should go out and find bags of baking soda instead of the little boxes that we are used to buying.  I think I could possibly clear out most of my cleaning supplies under the sink and replace them with just normal every day items.

One very interesting tip I found was to unclog drains with baking soda and vinegar.  We have a private septic and don't like to put chemicals down the drain so this is a perfect solution for my slow running drains.  Pour 1 cup of baking soda followed by hot vinegar (heated in microwave) and several minutes later a quart of boiling water.  You may have to repeat but so much better than using the drain opener chemicals.

I could go on and on!  With kids and pets it's always nice to find ways to keep harsh chemicals away from our homes, lawns, and gardens.  Check out the book for yourself, thousands of great ideas and helpful hints.  I will also share more of these tips as I try them out for myself.  Stay tuned for more ideas that will keep our families safe and save some money along the way!
